A Spot of Colour

Ways of confining image changes are discussed in  Menu/Graphics/PSP/Confining Changes and the methods are applicable to many graphics programs. This example is done using Elements 7.

We want to highlight a feature in colour and make the rest of the image monochrome

Opening the image and duplicating the background layer is always a good way to safeguard the original.

Create a new adjustment layer. Hue/Saturation

Reduce the saturation to -100

With the adjustment layer active, paint the flower area with black, this reveals the colour of the rose.

“B” activates the paint brush tool set

”D” sets the colour patches to black and white

“X” swaps the foreground and background colours

“ [ “ reduces the size of the brush and “ ] “ increases brush size

Copy the H/S layer and adjust the hue to suite
